I have been living in North Las Vegas for 8-years and I own a 4-bedroom/3-bath home in North Las Vegas.
I decided to buy my home because as a renter, we were paying someone else’s mortgage and I wanted to own something that was my own and have more stability and security. Also, the rent increases we were facing every year was nonsensical. Just the thought of my rent and cost-of-living going up every year, and them not keeping up with the wages – it was too much.
I have three children. My eldest daughter is 18-years-old and I have two 14-year old daughters who are twins. I want my daughters to be able to save up to buy a home one day, but this current housing market is not affordable. Right now, for what my home is valued at, I wouldn’t be able to afford to buy my own home today if it were on the market. I worry that my eldest daughter will have to pay rent that is way too high when she moves out and that she will have to live with a lot of roommates just to be able to make rent.
When I first moved to Nevada, a 2-bedroom apartment was $850-$1,000, now the current prices for rent are too high and it keeps Black and brown families in a vicious cycle. People don’t want to rent forever, but in North Las Vegas, the market is overwhelming, stressful, and the prices are ridiculous.
With the IRS Tip Allocation rates skyrocketing workers are making significantly less money every paycheck and that makes it harder to make rent. I also have noticed a lot of homes being built recently, but not for sale – they are only for rent and the prices are too expensive, and it makes me think that as my daughters grow up they will face limited options.
As an immigrant from Nigeria who moved to the United States over 30 years ago, I’m proud to be a homeowner because it’s part of the American Dream. As a homeowner, I also am proudly supporting the Neighborhood Stability Ordinance because everyone is on the brink of housing not being affordable, whether you rent or buy. I urge North Las Vegas renters and homeowners like me to join this campaign to win Neighborhood Stability.

He estado viviendo en North Las Vegas durante 8 años y soy dueña de una casa de 4 dormitorios y 3 baños en North Las Vegas.
Decidí comprar mi casa porque como inquilina, estábamos pagando la hipoteca de otra persona y yo quería ser dueña de algo propio y tener más estabilidad y seguridad. Además, los aumentos de alquiler que enfrentábamos cada año no tenían sentido. Solo la idea de que mi alquiler y el costo de vida aumentaran cada año, y que ellos no se ajustaran con los salarios, era demasiado.
Tengo tres hijos. Mi hija mayor tiene 18 años y tengo dos hijas gemelas de 14 años. Quiero que mis hijas puedan ahorrar para comprar una casa algún día, pero este mercado inmobiliario actual está inalcanzable. En este momento, con el valor actual de mi casa, no podría permitirme comprar mi propia casa hoy si estuviera en el mercado. Me preocupa que mi hija mayor tenga que pagar un alquiler demasiado alto cuando se mude y que tenga que vivir con muchos compañeros de habitación solo para poder pagar el alquiler.
Cuando me mudé a Nevada por primera vez, un departamento de 2 habitaciones costaba entre $850 y $1,000, ahora los precios actuales de alquiler son demasiado altos y mantienen a las familias de personas negras y morenas en un círculo vicioso. La gente no quiere alquilar para siempre, pero en North Las Vegas, el mercado es abrumador, estresante y los precios son ridículos.
Con las tasas de Asignación de Propinas del IRS que se disparan, los trabajadores ganan mucho menos dinero en cada cheque de pago y eso hace que sea más difícil pagar el alquiler. También he notado que se están construyendo muchas casas recientemente, pero no para la venta, son solo para alquilar y los precios son demasiado caros, y me hace pensar que a medida que mis hijas crezcan, enfrentarán opciones limitadas.
Como inmigrante de Nigeria que se mudó a los Estados Unidos hace más de 30 años, estoy orgullosa de ser propietaria de una casa porque es parte del Sueño Americano. Como propietaria de una vivienda, también apoyo con orgullo la Ordenanza de Estabilidad del Vecindario porque todos están al borde de que las viviendas sean inalcanzables, ya sea que alquilen o compren. Pido urgentemente a los inquilinos y propietarios de viviendas de North Las Vegas como yo a unirse a esta campaña para ganar la Estabilidad del Vecindario.
